When the show
ended two years later, Christina performed in Japan and Romania,
but always had one goal - to have her own album recorded and released
before she graduated high school.
In 1998 Christina
auditioned to sing 'Reflection' for Disney's animated film 'Mulan'.
Christina cut a demo in her living room singing to a karaoke tape
of Whitney Houstons 'I wanna run to you', and soon Christina was
in Los Angeles recording 'Reflection'.
In 1998, 'Reflection'
turned into a Top 15 A/C single, and Christina performed it live
on 'CBS this Morning' and the 'Donnie & Marie Show'. The single
got a Golden Globe Nomination for Best Original Song in a Motion
Picture and brought Christina to the attention of writers and producers.

Christina's breakthrough
began with her first Number-One single 'Genie in a Bottle', which
stayed atop the charts for five weeks and rocketed the album to
# 1 upon its release in August 1999. The follow-up single 'What
a girl wants' was the first #1-hit of the new millenium.
Christina was
named one of the most fascinating women of 1999 on the 'Ladies Home
Journal' CBS-TV special, won 1999 Best New Artist at ALMA awards,
was on covers of many magazines and guest star in TV shows and TV
specials like 'Saturday Night Life', 'The Tonight Show with Jay
Leno' and others.
Christina also
performed 'The Christmas Song' for President Bill Clinton on TNT's
'Christmas at the White House'-special, and in 2000 she appeared
with Enrique Iglesias at the Super Bowl Half Time Show.
Christina also
got nominated for two Grammies - Best New Artist and Best Female

Christina has Ecuadorian heritage which she is proud of and wanted
to explore her Latin side.
